Haul-ass day 2:

Hit the ground running early this morning trying to get the rest of the Big Top display done. Ran into a couple of engineering issues on how to keep the front fly of the canopy tight and level without the use of ropes and stakes, since asphalt will be our main setup surface. Going with concrete anchors and adjustable legs; a bit more work than we had planned but a lot more flexible in the long run.

Minions busted butt all day and painted or not, we will be open for business tomorrow! Mrs. H came by, shared a couple of beers, gave us the thumb's up and helped us take things down for the night.

More pics tomorrow, fans, as we begin to sort things out for the final dress rehearsal tomorrow:)

The weather was really great today, just a bit breezy, but we worked through it. Priority one was the clean out and repaint of Matilda's bed interior. We needed to get rid of the rust and damage from all the landscape materials we moved in months past to improve the motor pool property. The biggest issue was not getting nasty rust stains on the big top canvas when setting up the display.

So, grinder & wire wheels followed by some rust reformer and a couple good coats of new flat black. Now the bed looks rattle can new. We also got our first display rack covered with the stone coating and it looks really cool too.

Mrs. H came over and picked up some more bracelets she has sold, and that means more beers. YAY!

The weather was almost perfect at the motor pool today, just a bit breezy, but sun none the less. So, haul ass was the plan for the day.

With two grinders going, both with wire wheels, we got all of the big top frame cleaned up and ready for primer. The primer went on easy and dried quickly in the warmth of the sun, but the textured paint was a whole different story. That stuff takes it's own sweet time. What a pain in the ass! By 8pm we had lost the heat and most of the light so we had to put everything away, and did not get the two larger pieces completely painted, so we are waiting on the weather yet again.

It was really cool overall to get out and make some progress. We had parts everywhere and it actually looked as though we knew what we were doing!

Today we were getting a few things done around the motor pool setting up for the next few days, as soldier B will be on vacation and that means extra hands.

This afternoon V came by with a new oil filtration system he designed and built for recycling fuels for his new bobber. We forgot to get pictures but we will add them when we get some.

We also got a late afternoon visit from Mrs. H and little T, just to hang out and down a few beers. Always a good time here at the motor pool ;-)

The weather gave us enough time to get some painting done today. We are going with a textured paint that kinda looks like a powder coating, but it dries very slow, and one can doesn't cover very much.

We also had a bit of a set back today as our largest order of materials for the funding project was rerouted back to the UPS main terminal as a result of the scumbag that owned our local franchise closing without any notice at all. Great for all our bills and credit score as well. WHAT A DOUCHE!

New Hitachi grinder, good weather and the progress resumed today. We got all of the defective Ryobi tools returned to Depot and picked up a corded replacement as well as some paint. Back at the motor pool we got a couple of the frame pieces cleaned up, primed and painted. Hope to get more done tomorrow.

Late this afternoon, we got a visit from Mrs. H and little T. T got his wrist surgery and is in recovery mode, so no beer for him ;-( We needed the break and as always we all tend to laugh our asses off when we get together.

The weather is going South again in the next few days but next weekend is looking like it could be our first chance for a booth set up.

WOW! Today was really one of those good news bad news kinda days.

Let's start with the good. V came to visit today driving his new toy. It is an awesome bobbed deuce with the drop down side bed, custom built for him by the guys at Idaho Motor Pool. This rig is bad ass and V is like a kid with a new Tonka truck. Literally! The smile on his face was ear to ear when he pulled up.

V's visit was the highlight of our day, but other issues were a real bummer.

As we started to clean up the frame for the big top display, we had a catastrophic tool failure. Two of the Ryobi lithium ion batteries burned up in the grinder. Had they actually exploded, soldier A would have been burned extensively. So, we are done with Ryobi tools and going to stick with the old faithful DeWalt.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Hope all you moms had a terrific day today...we spent the day monster truckin' and doing more prep work for Monday's inventory production. Soldier B
declined a special outing for dinner and made some fantastic chicken in the slow cooker. She said she would rather wait for a sunny early evening on a Friday or Saturday on the patio at one of the local eateries that has tasty microbrews and great service.

Editor's note; Does anyone like purple? Soldier A has been on some sort of hippie ride like purple haze or something, as of late.

The sun finally came out to play today. Hell ya! So, there was enough dry weather to get the grounds cleaned up around the motor pool. Soldier A spent most of the day cutting grass that was as thick as beaver fur, and filled half the bed of the grocery getter for the run to the dump.

At the end of the day, soldier B was kind enough to call soldier A a dumb ass for waiting 2 weeks to cut the grass in the first place. With luck we will have a dry weekend and get some more important work done.

Also, Mrs. H we have some cool stuff made for you!

Had an awesome visit from Mrs. H and little T today. Beers and gut busting laughs. It was a great, and a much needed break from the monotony of the never ending rain.

The forecasters just keep promising the sun will come.

Got a phone call from V today and his bobbed deuce is done and ready to be picked up. Totally cool! So, by the end of the week he should be cruising around in his new wheels.

Way to go V! Things are still a bit wet at the motor pool but we are still waiting with big hopes.
