Halloween, our favorite holiday! We got blessed by the ghouls and got the center section of fiberglass on the nose cone. In addition, we got some extra fairing compound on the driver's side of the box and cleaned off the hinge bottoms of the fold down side rail on the passenger side.

OK, this is getting to be a bit surreal. Today we had to put yet another coat of fairing compound on the two sides of the nose cone. It would be safe to say this delay is getting a bit frustrating.

Soldier A said that this has to be the last coat so we can get glass on and stop the water leaks. If any more body work has to be done it will have to be
done over the first coat of fiberglass.

We didn't post yesterday because it was a doctors visit day for Soldier A who is still dealing with the after effects of the grinder accident and subsequent incompetent healthcare he received.

But, today we got some things done and our hood dragon arrived!

The remaining skirt panels for the tank battle field needed more fairing compound before they get ready for resin and fiberglass. Being that the weather wasn't really good for working on the Dragon Wagon we focused on them instead.

SUN! Just what we needed today. By mid day it was really nice weather around the motor pool, so we  got to sanding on the nose cone. Soldier A applied what we are hoping is going to be the last coat of fairing compound and then it was time for a beer.

Flipped the first set of skirt panels over today and threw on two coats of epoxy on the other side. Then we cut a bunch of pieces that we will need for the honeycomb base of the battle field. When that was done we did the putty sanding on the hatch lid and started the fiberglass work.

More rain again today but we managed to get some stuff done. The blue foam sheets are a little more rough than the ones we have been using, so we decided to throw a couple of coats of resin on them so we can sand them smooth.

Then we turned to some shop clean up and recycling that needed to be done. Before the day was over we got to take Tiffany and Matilda out for some road time.

Today Soldier A went nuts and tried to cut the remaining pieces needed for the battlefield skirt by himself. Things went well until the table saw snagged a couple of pieces of the Styrofoam and tore out a couple of chunks. But by the end of it all he just started filling the damaged areas with fairing compound and moved on.

All in all not a bad day.

He also got the hatch lid done and puttied, ready for sanding and installation.

Nasty! That's about the only way to describe how it was outside today. So, operations were moved inside. We got the hatch shroud sanding finished and started on the hatch lid itself.

The new canopy for our tank battlefield ground footprint arrived yesterday, so we set it up in the RV bay to learn how it works and start the battlefield construction. Then we started cutting the foam that will create the walls that will go all the way around the field to keep the tiny tanks on the deck, as well as keeping little hands from picking up the tanks 😄

A fairly productive day.

Rain and wind! That's how we started the day at the motor pool. So, we went out for a bit of shopping in the Dragon Wagon.

She draws attention every time she pulls into a parking lot.

When we got back to the motor pool the War Dragon head was waiting for us. This is going to look awesome on the grill!

What an awesome day! We got tons of stuff done and the weather was perfect.

So, the last of the foam for shaping the nose cone got epoxied on and with the sun on the truck and a little extra hardener we were able to get most of the

fairing compound on the areas needing it. We also got a huge amount of clean up and prep done for tomorrow.
And, to cap off the day, we sanded and prepped the roof access shroud for installation.

Got to go out in the sunshine today and have some fun! Even not finished, the Dragon Wagon drew tons of people with loads of questions. The weather was perfect and we got to have some excellent conversations with some really nice folks. What an awesome day!

Well the extra mile last night really paid off this morning. When we got out to start working on the nose cone again. Things were dry and solid. A brief sanding to get last nights work scuffed up, and it was time to start laying on the fairing compound.

Everything that was ready got the first real good layer. There will be more needed before the fiberglass starts. And then we ran out of fairing compound!

At least the Dragon Wagon got to go out in public today! And tomorrow we are doing the Grocery Outlet in Bonney Lake.

Long, hard, cold, but productive. That pretty much says everything about today.

In a nutshell, everything that we put on the nose cone yesterday turned into a huge mess in the afternoon rain and had to be sanded off this morning. After running through many sanding disks, the cleanup was done.

We had a visitor come by and pick up some trailer bows and top that we no longer need and he was a really nice guy. After that it was back to the nose cone.

Soldier A put two real good coats of epoxy on everything that was ready and some more fairing compound where it was needed most. And then the showers started again damn it!

Determined not to have a repeat of yesterday, Soldier A took the heat gun and umbrella and stayed on the hood of the truck putting heat on everything until it flashed. It took until just after dark, but he did it!

Well, once again the rain beat us up. Soldier A was able to get the preliminary sanding done this morning but the rain stopped any further progress on the nosecone. That meant moving into the shop and starting the production of dragon scales.

10/11/2017

Well, the rainy season is upon us again but Soldier A is determined to get the nosecone of the truck done. After applying a coat of putty the rain came at us in force. Donning an umbrella, he got the heat gun out and made sure the putty flashed, so as not to waste the material. A big gob came down on the hood, but most of it stayed in place. If we could just find a building large enough to put her in to get the exterior done, we would be in such great shape...

Added more Styrofoam today. This is a bit of a slow process because we have to wait for the epoxy resin that we are using to glue everything to dry, before we can do any shaping or add the fairing compound.

10/9/2017

Well we just jumped over another hurdle in the path to completing the shell construction on the Dagon Wagon. Soldier A started the final phase of the nose cone construction. The two plywood risers will hold the larger dragon skulls and the rest will be Styrofoam wrapped with multiple layers of fiberglass.

Using the foam instead of more plywood should help keep the weight down up there, and the type of glass and resin we are using makes everything super strong.

We are hoping to go out and set up tomorrow and make some money. So, Soldier A put the flag pole holders back on the Camper.
